Convivial

Convivial is the technology behind Morpht's Drupal starter sites: personalisation, accessibility, and editor experience built in from the start, not added later. It isn't a product you buy on its own. It powers two starter sites, so you can pick the one that matches your project.

Two starter sites, one foundation

Both share the same underlying approach to personalisation, accessibility, and editor experience. Convivial for GovCMS was recognised with the Open Source award at the 2025 DrupalSouth Splash Awards.

Our flagship accelerator for government and enterprise, built on GovCMS SaaS.

A free Drupal site template on the Drupal Marketplace, built with Drupal Canvas.

The technology behind Convivial

Convivial Profiler

A flexible, client-side engine for defining and locally storing user attributes. The profile then drives personalisation features such as promotional banners, calls to action, and filtered content, without sending personal data to a server.

Convivial Enricher

Integrates your CRM and other systems with Convivial, handling inbound links and enriching the user profile from external data. This allows direct targeting of users via attributes managed in your CRM, with personalised content controlled by marketing and sales teams through the CRM itself.

Frequently asked questions

Drupal personalisation means showing different content, calls to action, or navigation paths to different visitors based on context, such as their role, location, referral source, or where they are in a task, rather than showing every visitor an identical page. It ranges from simple rule-based content swaps through to more advanced, behaviour-driven recommendations.

Content personalisation is the practice of tailoring the content a user sees based on their context, including browsing history, device, location, time of day, intent, and journey stage. For government websites, personalisation helps citizens find relevant services and information faster, reducing frustration and support costs. Rather than presenting a generic homepage to every visitor, personalised sites guide different audiences - job seekers, carers, and small business owners toward the content most relevant to their needs.

Morpht uses a layered personalisation approach. The Convivial Profiler, a lightweight client-side personalisation engine developed by Morpht, tracks user affinity for content, intent signals, and journey stage using local browser storage, without storing personal data on a server. This powers conditional content display and audience-specific promotions. For deeper personalisation and content recommendations, Morpht integrates Recombee, a Recommender-as-a-Service that applies machine learning to user behaviour to surface relevant content, similar in principle to how Netflix or Spotify surface recommendations.

Yes. Morpht's approach to personalisation is designed with privacy at the centre. The Convivial Profiler operates entirely client-side, storing user preference signals in the browser's local storage rather than transmitting personal data to a server or third party. This means no personally identifiable information is collected or retained, making the approach compliant with the Australian Privacy Act and appropriate for government contexts where data sovereignty and citizen trust are critical. Personalisation decisions are made in the browser, not in the cloud.

Morpht uses a personalisation maturity model to help agencies understand their current state and identify the next practical step in delivering personalised experiences. Maturity levels range from no personalisation, through audience-based and context-based personalisation, to behaviour-driven recommendations and AI-augmented experiences. Rather than recommending the most sophisticated solution immediately, Morpht uses the model to identify the right level of investment for each agency's audience size, content volume, and organisational readiness.

Personalisation typically involves adapting content display based on user context; showing different hero content, promotions, or navigation to different audiences based on their segment, device, or browsing history. Content recommendations involve algorithmically surfacing specific content items that a user is likely to find relevant, based on collective and individual behaviour patterns. Both approaches can be used together: personalisation shapes the overall experience, while recommendations surface specific articles, resources, or services within that experience. Morpht delivers both through Convivial Profiler and Recombee, respectively.

GovFlix is a proof-of-concept built by Morpht on GovCMS that demonstrates AI-powered content recommendation capabilities. Modelled conceptually on streaming platforms, GovFlix shows how government content can be surfaced to users based on their interests and behaviour rather than requiring them to navigate hierarchies or use search. The project demonstrated that the Recombee recommendation engine can be integrated with GovCMS SaaS to deliver Netflix-style content discovery for public information, a significant capability uplift for citizen-facing digital services.

They suit different starting points. Convivial for GovCMS is built specifically for the GovCMS platform and is procured through the Drupal Services Panel. Convivial Gov is a free, downloadable Drupal site template for any government or Drupal Marketplace project. Talk to us if you're not sure which fits.
