Commonwealth Grants Commission (CGC)
The Commonwealth Grants Commission (CGC) needed a website refresh with the new corporate branding and assets built on the GovCMS SasS platform. The usability of the content CGC collect and report, needed to be easily accessible and user friendly. Morpht developed an interactive map to clearly show the State and Territory GST distribution and also incorporated an accordion below the map to meet accessibility standards.

Overview
The Commonwealth Grants Commission (CGC) is an independent agency that advises the Australian Government on how funds from the Goods and Services Tax (GST) should be distributed to state and territory governments. The CGC is responsible for collecting and assessing data, and undertaking research to provide considered advice to the Commission.
The challenge
The CGC were looking for a website refresh on the GovCMS platform. The project involved
- Creating a new design direction that extended the current brand and style guidelines,
- incorporating newly developed design assets,
- Optimising the information architecture to surface important content and reports.
The solution
Commencing with Discovery sessions, Morpht took a deep dive into the requirements with the CGC. We took on the challenge of working with a strong and distinctive colour palette to extend the Australian Government Design system while meeting accessible standards. Through a few iterations we settled on a design direction that aligned well with the CGC’s brand identity.

Information architecture
By clearing defining the information architecture , Morpht drew up a content model to help unpack the CGC’s complex hierarchy for its Government Reports. A Final Report is the outcome of a series of activities including Consultations, Issues, Submissions and other Supporting Information. We developed a concept of Document containers and File Collections to provide structure and context.
Document containers and File Collections
To deliver on a hierarchy of documents and reports we created a series of nested paragraph containers. The editor can set up a Document container to establish a heading and description and nest within that a File Collection to pull in media files related to a report.

Interactive map
The CGC wanted a map of Australia on their home page which clearly showed the State and Territory GST distribution.
Morpht developed a component that handled this requirement; which includes the flexibility for CGC to modify the content and the colours for each State and Territory as required.

Importantly, this feature also needed to meet accessibility requirements. As such, we added an accordion below the map to render the content in a format that will easily be picked up by screen readers.

Summary
Morpht, in close collaboration with the CGC team, worked through the challenges of complex content needs to deliver a great outcome. Through a consultative review with external stakeholders, Morpht was able to deliver the CGC a new website they’re excited about and proud of on the GovCMS platform.
