Drupal 7 launch party in Sydney

Drupal 7 was released, and during a launch party in Sydney, Morpht’s founders, Marji Cermak and Murray Woodman, met and discussed the future of Drupal. Dries Buytaert, the founder of Drupal, was also at the event. We managed to slip in a brief conversation on the new Field API in Drupal 7.

Morpht was founded and incorporated

In the early days, Morpht was focused on the technical delivery of websites and platforms. Marji focused on DevOps, and Murray on site building and module development.

Paragraphs pack module

Morpht was quick to latch onto the Paragraphs paradigm of building out pages. Initially, we had a client project that required a lot of flexibility in the positioning and styling of content. The demands of the client went beyond what was possible with common solutions of the time, which were more rigid in their approach. The Paragraphs module provided a way to add discrete components onto the page, providing a lot of flexibility to the editor. The Paragraphs pack module provides a collection of common paragraph types. Each type is separated into its own sub-module.

DrupalCon 2015

The world was beginning to catch on to the Paragraphs bug. Murray presents "Better tools for content creators" at DrupalCon Los Angeles 2015, showcasing a lot of the work Morpht had been doing in the area, pioneering approaches with layouts, modifiers and custom components. The talk was the most popular at the conference and was a big leap in the progress of Morpht in the community.

GovCMS

Morpht made a strategic decision to adopt the GovCMS platform as the foundation for their site builds, providing a stable base for their projects. We have been involved with GovCMS from the early days of Drupal 7. Since then, we have been committed to building solid, functional, beautiful, responsive, accessible and effective websites for government in Australia.

Modifiers module

After building out a few different components using Paragraphs, we discovered that we needed a flexible way to change the appearance of the components in a standard and encapsulated way. The Modifiers module defines a system for defining how modifications can be consistently applied to elements on a page. Examples of common modifiers are background image, background video, parallax image, and scroll reveal.

GovCMS8 Starter Theme

Morpht was engaged by GovCMS in June 2018 to build the GovCMS8 UI-Kit Starter theme, an implementation of the Australian Government Design System inside Drupal. Morpht was engaged for its technical abilities as well as to integrate some of the editor tools it has pioneered to build flexible pages with no developer intervention. The theme was a success with many sites choosing to use it as a starting point for the site build.

Recombee module

Morpht has always looked for how the user experience can be improved through the use of technology. We have had a keen interest in content recommendations since the success of Amazon, with the recommendations it was able to provide. The problem was always how to scaleably manage the backend and the recommendations. Recombee, a third party SaaS, gave us a solution, providing personalised content via recommendations to users based on user behaviour, the similarity of items, and a range of other factors. Morpht built the Recombee integration module for Drupal and provides it as a service to GovCMS customers who are looking for a recommender as a service.

Personified module

Morpht developed its own lightweight personalisation engine, "Convivial Profiler", which operates in the browser. It provides a user profile that allows personalised content to be delivered to the user. The content delivery is managed by Personified, a Drupal module developed by Morpht, which gathers the context, makes a request and then transforms the results for the user. The user is then able to see content that has been personalised for them.

Augmentor AI module

Morpht has been following along with developments in AI. Rumblings started happening with ChatGPT 2, and then things really started to heat up with ChatGPT 3. The Drupal community has been experimenting with AI in a number of ways. The Augmentor module was our attempt to define a common framework for integrating AI backends into Drupal. Augmentor provides a plugable ecosystem for managing a variety of AI services such as GPT3, ChatGPT, NLP Cloud, Google Cloud Vision and many more. Many of the ideas in this approach are found in the more recent work on AI in Drupal.
